Once back inside and after a quick snack of girl scout cookies, the younger siblings alternate between playing together and squabbling while Holly tackles the mountain of laundry produced by 4 children. In between laundry loads she reviews the paperwork she recently received from her land lord which outlines all the things that need to be done upon move out. She has been making a mental list of all the larger things that need to be attended to; reinstalling the bannister they removed from the stairwell, putting the fixtures back on the lights in the little kids rooms, wiping down the walls, cleaning the carpets, and so on.
Like many military moves involving school age children, Holly’s move was going to be a bit complicated. Involving her husband flying out to Washington to help her with the pack out the following week. Then leaving all her kids with their family here in Washington. Their two youngest joining them in Texas roughly two weeks later, after they had settled into their new home. Their older two arriving a full two months later after school had let out for summer.
